Job Description
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in splicing of copper telecommunications cable in an underground active telecom network environment
- Previous work as an outside plant employee of a telecommunications company and also as an employee of a contractor focused on outside plant work in an active telecommunications network
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working on the prepping of copper cable in an active telecommunications network for purposes of cable extraction and deconstruction of the copper cable plant
- Minimum of 6 months experience using the Green Planet 21 “Safe Cutting” process in an active Telco underground network under direct supervision of a Green Planet 21 Utility Services Trainer or Manager
- A minimum of 3 years of experience and strong knowledge in the use of toning equipment such as Tone Arc Toners for the purposes of safely identifying copper cable paths
Essential Duties:
- Reading/interpreting multiple types of Telco cable records including CAD drawings and/or manual prints
- Certified Training in Green Planet 21’s 16-step “Safe Cutting” process
- Comply with safety requirements for work in telecom manholes.
- Understand Telco cable maintenance procedures, cable repair tools and equipment
Special Requirements:
- Must provide own work vehicle that is cable of carrying all equipment required to perform safe work in a manhole including; manhole ladder, 3” min water pump with 25’ of hose, portable generator capable of reliably running all electrically supplied equipment, manhole work lighting, manhole safety set up and air blower as well as test equipment, cutters, repair parts and personal safety equipment such as safety vests, hard hat, eye protection, ear protection, gloves and steel toed shoes.
- Must provide a complete traffic control safety setup including safety cones and manhole safety guard
- Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs. and open a telephone manhole lid using a manhole hook.
- Physically able to perform; opening of manhole, entry, work in manhole and closing of up to 20 manholes per day
- Strong possible exposure to chemical, petroleum lead, biohazard, dangerous vapors and gases, molten metals and electrical hazards.
- Exposure to extremely noisy areas, confined spaces, elevated areas, extreme temperatures and humidity, and ability to climb vertical ladders.
Certification Requirements:
- Green Planet 21 16-Step “Safe Cutting” process training certification
Preferred:
- Basic PC and data entry knowledge
