Job Description and Responsibilities:

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for the maintenance and installation of new and existing fiber in an inside and outside plant environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
Ability to splice large count fibers via tube or ribbon method
Ability to access the fiber optic splicer enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from a ladder
Able to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDR, Fiber Identifier and Fiber Scope
Prep, tray, and splice fiber optic cable ranging from single fiber to 864 count as well as perform ring cut when needed
Perform testing and turn-ups of subscriber drops in both inside and outside plant environment
Perform power meter testing
Able to work with all types of fiber, loose tube, ribbon, etc.

Requirements:

Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Knowledge of operating and using fiber optic splice and test equipment

Technical Skills:
Ability to read splicing matrix and design drawings
Ability to utilize MS Excel or equivalent to document and retrieve splice information
Ability to operate a bucket truck

Soft Skills:
Highly organized and detail orientated
Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
• Individuals must have a valid driver’s license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
• May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
• Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks)
• Ability to work in confined spaces (e. g. attics, crawl spaces, utility holes)
• This position requires the ability to work various shifts and travel

Qualifications:
We are looking for experienced Fiber Optic Splicers to join our team. A qualified candidate will terminate, test, troubleshoot and maintain fiber optic networks. He/she will have working knowledge of fusion splicing, fiber strippers, cleavers, aerial booms, power meter and OTDR, plus be familiar with ribbon splicing/mass splicing on anything from a 864ct fiber down to a 2ct flat drop. We splice both ribbon and lose-tube fiber, single mode and multi-mode.

Job Description
Responsible for performing on-site installations of fiber optic systems at customer’s work site. Working with customer, management, and employees to assure a quality installation within set budgets. Must be able to adjust schedule on short notice and/or any shift. Has a wide variety of skill sets and must have the ability to work alone effectively and efficiently. Must be keenly aware of job hours and costs associated to a project. Displays strong troubleshooting skills in all areas of fiber optics.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
•Meets with customers to obtain work orders (e.g. blueprints, splice diagrams, etc.).
•Efficiently test and trouble shoots fiber and give analysis of the results.
•A minimum 2 years of fiber experience, proficient at terminating and splicing of fiber optic cables.
•Employee must proficient in the use of all test and splicing equipment, and must know how to use computer and all software used by the company concerning the completion of fiber optic projects.

Working Conditions
•Hours may vary such as less than 40 one week and 50+ the next.
•Work schedule can vary from day work to night work or day and night work in the same week.
•Employee may have to work out of a tent, trailer or in manholes.
•Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
•Paid travel to and from projects for extended periods.

Equipment Operated
Utilize a PC with various software and to analyze final results proficiently. Working knowledge of fusion splicers, fiber strippers, cleavers, aerial boom, gas meter and OTDR and keeping up with new technology in the fiber optic field.

The Position:
This is a salaried position with production and quality bonuses. Company provides training. A 401k benefit is available after initial waiting period.
