Job Description
GIS ENGINEER, TELECOM
Henkels & McCoy, Inc., (H&M) one of the largest privately held utility contracting firms in North America, with over 4500 employees in 80 cities and over 90 years of a proven reputation as one of the most reliable, innovative and diversified firms in the engineering and construction industry, is currently seeking a GIS Engineer for its Telecom program in Detroit Michigan.
The GIS Engineer is responsible for the oversight, administration, maintenance, applications, as-build designs, and archiving of the OSP design work performed in the ArcGIS/ESRI Group platform. Duties may include, but are not limited to, assist in the design of outside plant infrastructure, field audits, records verification, detail design and documents preparation, data entry, creating work order construction prints, records posting, cable count re-arrangements, as-build completion and submission, and routine work order functions. This position reports to the Engineering Manager. This position is located at the Detroit Michigan metro area office.
MAJOR JOB ELEMENTS
- Manage the ArcGIS/ESRI Group platform. Support the third party design effort.
- Assist in the development of mobile and desk top applications.
- Ensure engineering/design activities comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule.
- Audit third party design platforms to ensure compliance to approved schema and attributes.
- Provide technical support for design, project management, construction, including participation in construction planning.
- Plan, conduct, and monitor work in accordance with engineering construction plans and specifications.
- Assist in the review and approval of final detail design, to include the BOM (bill of materials).
- Assist in the development and implementation of field computer applications to facilitate the control and collection of data for mapping (gps)(gis)(kmz), inspection, quantity performance, schedule performance, as-build documentation, and subcontract administration.
- Trouble shoot ESRI platform and third party designers for any anomalies in the system or processes.
- Oversee final as-build design and documentation.
- Work safely – Commitment to work safely in manner that is consistent with company values and policies. Participate in safety oriented culture by reading safety memos, listening to industry experts, and watching out for fellow employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Have five years of project experience. Three (+) years in telecom.
- Minimum 3 years of ArcGIS /ESRI software and Geo-database experience.
- BS Degree in Engineering, Associate’s degree in Engineering Technologies, or Construction Management preferred. Relevant project field experience may be substituted for education.
- Must have computer skills in CAD, MS Office programs, field applications for surveying and data management a plus.
- Have a high level of written and oral communication skills.
