Job Description

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Heavy equipment operators will be installing and or maintaining underground utilities and will need to operate a variety of equipment including backhoes, excavators, plows, trenchers, and or directional bore machines.
Job functions include placing and maintaining underground facilities – placing conduit, handholes and manholes, and safely digging around existing utilities.
Ability to read prints, locate underground utilities, communicate effectively with customers and coworkers, and abide by all company safety procedures and policies.
Heavy equipment operators will be expected to participate in Danella’s safety program, participate in pre job JHA discussions and safety talks.
The proper maintenance of equipment will be expected.
Essential Physical Requirements (include but are not limited to):
Hand dig with shovel, sharpshooter, etc.
Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
Work in congested or remote areas
Repetitive motion with hand, wrist, feet, head, and shoulder
Work while standing or sitting for several hours at a time
Must be able to work in small/sometimes confined areas
Must be able to work in variable heights/depths
Must be able to lift/carry up to 40+ pounds
Reach, bend and stoop while performing work
Maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
Work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, vest and gloves
Work in extreme weather conditions depending on geographical location (below freezing to over 100 degrees and in very windy conditions)
Hours/Schedules are determined based on Region and Customer Needs and in compliance with any regulations; on average – must be able to perform the above for at least 8 hours per day 5 days per week. Weekend work/Overtime is dependent on Work Load.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 3 years’ experience related to heavy equipment operation in utility construction and excavation.
A valid driver’s license is required, CDL A is preferred.
Danella Construction is a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug test, and physical, is required. Random drug and alcohol screenings are also performed.
