Job Description
Cable Technician needed in Spring Run/Fannetsburg, PA area for a small cable system. This position requires an experienced cable technician to run a route, complete maintenance, resolve outages for residential customers 3 days/week and splicing/repairing fiber 2 days/week.
This is an hourly position, with pay range at $15.00-20.00/hr, based on experience.
Job Responsibilities:
• Install cable television, internet and phone services.
• Communicate effectively with the customer concerning reception problems, instructions and services.
• Apply technical expertise to a variety of situations, evaluating problems and implementing the best solutions.
• Identify faults within the subscriber drop, feeder/distribution and trunk systems to ensure proper signal level, picture quality and compliance with all local, state, federal and Zito Media requirements and standards.
• Correct faults by adjusting, repairing or replacing passive or active components.
• Perform signal egress/ingress detection; sweep alignment; installations; troubleshooting; test point measurements; system balance and preliminary proofs and emergency restoration of signal outages in the feeder/distribution and trunk systems.
• Understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks.
• Ability to differentiate color codes, as well as read and understand manufacturer's manuals for operating and repairing of electronic equipment and components.
• Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment.
• Working knowledge of design and layout for fiber terminations.
• Work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals.
• Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
• Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned or as become evident.
Required:
• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• Valid state driver's license along with an excellent driving record.
• Friendly, patient, basic courtesy, diplomatic abilities and a pleasant demeanor.
• 5-10 years of experience in the cable television industry, including 2+ years of outside plant fiber splicing.
Special Requirements:
• Body weight not to exceed 280 pounds, in order to comply with safety limitations of equipment.
• Climb poles and ladders daily, carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Confidence working in/on buckets, ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 40 feet.
• Lift up to 100 lbs.
• Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
• Able to work a variety of schedules in order to provide needed coverage
• Sufficient visual and aural acuity to operate a variety of standard test and measurement equipment.
