Job Description
The Fiber Splicing Trainee will ultimately be responsible for splicing fiber, as well as for the installation and operation of Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant Fiber Optic Networks.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Fiber Splicing
• Responsible for cable terminations
• Familiar with industry testing equipment
• Validate and test end to end service provisioning for the Outside Plant fiber network.
• Conducts pre-installation terminating, splicing and testing.
• Responsible for daily workmanship and production on the job.
• See that all documentation is completed daily and correctly
• Keep updated and report accurately to team leader/managers.
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Competent in the use of test instruments and splicing equipment
• Familiar with fiber optic construction and installation.
• Capable of using test procedures to locate faults and isolate defective components.
• Must be willing to work in locations that preclude your ability to return home every day, on an as required basis.
• Must follow safe work practices and abide by all safety rules and regulations (Safety training / orientation provided)
• Must be willing and able to work various shifts as assigned (such as evenings, weekends and statutory holidays), based on business needs.
• Demonstrated ability to identify problems and situations, take appropriate action, implement solutions or escalate as required.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaboratively with other departments.
• Maintain a high level of performance under the pressure of time constraints and a fast-paced changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing to meet scheduled deadlines.
• Read and interpret drawings, plans and specifications, as well as layout and develop projects according to specifications
Microsoft Office Knowledge a plus.
Must have valid driver’s license
Must Pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen and Background
