Job Description
South Bay Excavating is seeking individuals to work as Aerial Lineman and Groundman at our Portland, OR location.
Operating from multiple locations, South Bay Excavating has the ability to provide, construction, and management solutions that meet the growing needs of phone, broadband, cable and cellular companies throughout the United States. Role:
The role of an Aerial Lineman is a specialty trained employee who has expertise in the construction and repair of overhead plant of copper, fiber optic and coaxial aerial cable plant. The Aerial Lineman also has extensive training in specialty equipment to service these overhead projects. An Aerial Lineman will also have an extensive and practical knowledge of copper, fiber and coaxial network makeup, its operation and network assets for troubleshooting and repair as well as new construction. The following duties are included but not limited to Aerial Lineman.
Desired Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:
• Aerial Lineman experience in an urban environment.
• Valid Class A CDL
• Clean driving record.
• Lift and carry up to 70 lbs.
• Able to climb and own their own climbing gear.
• Ability to read and understand maps, drawings and diagrams for project build process.
• Practical working experience of underground construction for all copper, fiber and coaxial.
• City, County and State clearance code knowledge and related permit requirements.
• Knowledge of Network architecture and design for both video and telecommunications networks.
• Must be able to pass a Pre-employment drug screening and provide references.
• Must be willing to travel as needed.
Primary Duties:
• Construction and repair of overhead copper, fiber optic and coaxial systems
• Understand how to read and construct from a design drawings and maps
• Understand all inventory and equipment required for these projects
• Experience in the use of line, bucket and digger derrick truck, cable reel equipment, saws and drills.
• Ability to climb poles with climbing equipment safely
• Move and relocate copper, fiber optic or coaxial cable plants
• Perform pole placement, removal, transfers and line extensions.
• Underground work as needed and directed and as trained including manhole/handhole racking and sequential gathering
• Flagger Certified for field work as needed
• Ability to troubleshoot copper, fiber optic and coaxial aerial plant or equipment issues
• Vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified
General Duties:
• Prepare daily / weekly paperwork as required by company and customers including asbuilt information
• Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
• Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
• Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
• Ensure all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.
• Inspect the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications.
• Help the operator of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Move and relocate copper, fiber optic or coaxial services.
• Vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.
• Perform proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment.
• Lead teams in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor.
• Familiar with NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) safety guidelines and Joint use construction.
