3-5 years ongoing troubleshooting and splicing experience. Some college effort preferred.
Other Requirements
Experience and competency with DWDM light meters, OSAM's, tunable light sources, OTDR, CWDM, DWDM, single channel and mux wave managemnt, piggy backed parent/child enclosure setups, FTTu, FTTh, RFoG, Matrix CREATION, Fiber asbuilt's and terminology.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
Competency in prepping and fusion splicing fiber
Competency in splicing large count single fibers or ribbon splicing
Competency in troubleshooting and accessing the fiber optic enclosure and splice the necessary fibers directly from ladders and bucket trucks
Able to troubleshoot and repair problems utilizing optical test equipment such as OTDRs, OSAMs, Fiber Identifiers, scopes and proper fiber standards and practices
handle OSP fiber and prep, troubleshoot and properly create mid-sheath entries.
Perform testing and turn-ups of fiber customer drops in both inside and outside plant environment
ability and tolerance to work in all types of weather
Ability to think on feet and look at the bigger fiber network when troubleshooting.
Ability to be on call on a rotation basis.
BE A TEAM PLAYER as part of a fiber team.
Education:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
Knowledge of live fiber rework and proper broadband CATV based network splicing / troubleshooting
Knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss, connector types and the different types of fibers and their applications and uses
Technical Skills:
Ability to read/ create splicing matrix and design drawings
Computer literate with Excel, Adobe, Bentley
Ability to operate a bucket truck/splice trailer combo LEGALLY with background checks and DOT physicals
Soft Skills:
Ability to work in a quickly changing environment, task to task, on many moving small projects.
Highly organized and detail orientated
Ability to detect errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment
Ability to comprehend, process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
Individuals must have a valid GA driver’s license and driving record meeting company policy conditions
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather
Ability to climb and work at elevations (e. g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet
Ability to work in confined spaces (e. g. attics, crawl spaces, utility holes)
