Job Description

The Customer Premises Technician (CPT) performs routine installations, disconnects, pre-wires, change of service, and multiple dwelling units (MDU) wiring for cable television video, voice, and data residential customers. The CPT troubleshoots the drop from the tap to the customer premises equipment as required to repair or restore the customer’s service.

Position Duties
• Perform customer drop installations, reconnects, disconnects, additional outlets, and service upgrades / downgrades from the tap to the customer’s equipment in single premises and MDUs, following safe work practices, Company, SCTE, NEC® and NESC requirements, and local ordinances, in order to provide cable television video, voice, and data services to the customer.
• Perform service calls to correct and restore Video, Voice and Data services to the customer.
• Adhere to all company safety policies and guidelines.
• Adhere to all company installation guidelines.
• Ensure that adequate vehicle stock levels for equipment and consumables is maintained in order to complete assigned workload.
• Ensure that all work orders are closed out daily.
• Promote and foster an atmosphere of professionalism (dress and appearance, communications, etc.).
• Accompany the Area Supervisor on escalated service calls that are not due to a plant related issue.
• Troubleshoot and repair signal leakage; perform CLI documentation and ride outs, as required.
• Ensure weekly payroll and time sheets are submitted on time.
• Works closely with the Command Center for route and job information.
• Responsible for communicating and driving company initiatives and objectives.
• Must meet and maintain established key performance indicators (Install repeats, QC score, On-Times, etc.).

Qualifications
• Demonstrate conduct and appearance in a professional manner.
• Survey and review the installation process with the customer in order to obtain agreement on the location of cable outlet(s).
• Review all requested services with the customer in order to ensure understanding and agreement.
• Inspect the existing ground or make a new bond in accordance with the National Electrical Code® (NEC) in order to protect employees, customers, and the general public from electrical shock, and equipment from damage.
• Knowledge of modern telecom video, voice and data products and services.
• Determine acceptability of video, voice, and data services by understanding operational parameters as defined by operator, and using proper test equipment and procedures to provide the best possible service for the customer.
• Knowledge of different coaxial cables, and cabling techniques.
• Troubleshoot the drop from the tap to the customer premises equipment as required to repair or restore the customer’s service.
• Knowledge of CATV mathematical concepts.
• Clean, maintain, and stock the vehicle and equipment in order to be prepared to perform required duties.
• Complete associated paperwork with each work order in a timely manner in order to ensure all details of the work are recorded for entry in the customer’s account once the work is complete.
• Ability to work on a computer; knowledge of computer hardware, software and the Internet and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve related service failures.
• Working knowledge of RF test equipment.
• Ability to use cable installation hand tools.
• Ability to comply with safety procedures and requirements.
• Ability to prioritize, and organize effectively, and work independently.
• Proficient with VOM’s, Digital Signal Analysis Meters and TDR’s.
• Experience troubleshooting digital signal performance characteristics (MER, BER, Modulation Schemes and FEC).
• Ability to read and interpret a QAM constellation.
• SCTE CPT Certification or equivalent experience a plus.
• Perform other duties as requested in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Some on-call hours may be required
• Some evening shift work
• Travel up to 20%
