Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on CATV feeder/distribution and trunk systems in order to maintain system performance standards and perform all the duties of a Service Technician when required.
DIMENSIONS:
Report to the assigned supervisor and is responsible for maintenance and repair of cable system, up to the headend, according to Zito Media policies and requirements.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Complete work assignments generated through subscriber service requests and technician follow-up requests, as well as assigned work from the supervisor including: signal egress/ingress detection; sweep alignment; installations; troubleshooting; test point measurements; system balance and preliminary proofs. The maintenance technician will serve as an on-call technician and will also audit the system and terminate unauthorized connections.
KNOWLEDGE:
Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent and a valid state driver's license along with an excellent driving record. Must have 5 years CATV experience or related work history in telecommunications. Certification in pole climbing and use of a bucket truck are prerequisites. Must have understanding of and ability to use the following equipment:

HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS:
Basic courtesy, diplomatic abilities and a pleasant demeanor are required for this position. The maintenance technician must be able to communicate effectively with the customer concerning reception problems and services. Must be friendly and patient.
PROBLEM SOLVING:
Will work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals. Must be able to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations, evaluating problems and implementing the best solutions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is a very active job physically. Maximum body weight can not exceed 280 pounds in order to comply with safety limitations of equipment. The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following essential functions:
Climb poles and ladders daily.
Carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 100 lbs. daily.
Must be able to work with confidence in buckets or on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 40 feet.
Lift up to 100 lbs.
Reach, push, pull and hold (frequently).
Grasp and perform fine manipulation on cable and electronic equipment
Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
Operate a motor vehicle.
Use the standard tools of the trade (screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, strippers, crimpers, hammers, etc.) to route cable, connect cable and install electronic equipment.
The maintenance technician must be able to work a variety of schedules in order to provide needed coverage, for both normal duty and on-call duty. Must have sufficient visual and aural acuity to operate a variety of standard test and measurement equipment.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Follow established troubleshooting procedures to identify faults within the subscriber drop, feeder/distribution and trunk systems to ensure proper signal level, picture quality and compliance with all local, state, federal and Zito Media requirements and standards.
2. Correct faults found in the above by adjusting, repairing or replacing passive or active components as required to maintain standards established by the company.
3. Perform signal egress/ingress detection and correction and maintain a daily log of same according to procedures and requirements.
4. Complete and report test point measurements.
5. Perform emergency restoration of signal outages in the feeder/distribution and trunk systems and serve on-call as needed.
6. Perform system balance and assist with system sweep operations.
7. Complete preventative maintenance work as required or assigned.
8. Activate new plant and perform preliminary proof when required.
9. Perform the duties of a Service Technician as needed.
10. Demonstrate support for excellent customer service.
11. Inform supervisor as necessary.
12. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
13. Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned or as become evident.
