Pay

Hourly rate depends on experience. Preferred skills $18-25

Required: High school diploma/equivalent & minimum 1 yr directly related experience/Valid state driver's license with excellent driving record. Preferred: 2+ yrs outside plant fiber splicing, 2+ yrs customer premise equipment installation/Experience with the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multimeters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc.

Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the terminating, splicing, documenting and testing of all fiber optic cables within Zito Media's fiber optic networks and their related equipment with the end goal of providing maximum operating efficiency. Also responsible for customer premise installations, including racking, cabling, bonding, and grounding.

KNOWLEDGE:
Required Skills: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and minimum one (1) year of directly related experience required. Must have a valid state driver's license along with an excellent driving record.

Preferred Skills: 2+ years of outside plant fiber splicing, 2+ years of customer premise equipment installation. Experience with the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multimeters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc.

Ideal candidate must:
*Be familiar with standards and best practices for premise entry and electronic equipment installation.
*Have a good understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks
*Be able to differentiate color codes
*Be able to read and understand manufacturer's manuals for operating and repairing of electronic equipment and components
*Be proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment
*Have a working knowledge of design and layout for fiber terminations
*Possess a good understanding of fiber documentation and have the ability to assist in laying out new fiber circuits
*Possess a diligence for documentation
*Have experience with bucket trucks and safety procedures

HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS:
Basic courtesy, diplomatic abilities and a pleasant demeanor are required for this position. The fiber technician must be able to communicate effectively with customers and other staff. Must be friendly and patient.

PROBLEM SOLVING:
Will work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals. Must be able to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations, evaluating problems and implementing the best solutions. Must work well under pressure and deadline environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is a very active job physically. Maximum body weight can not exceed 280 pounds in order to comply with safety limitations of equipment. The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following essential functions:

Climb poles and ladders daily.
Carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 100 lbs. daily.
Must be able to work with confidence on ladders and utility poles at heights of up to 40 feet.
Lift up to 100 lbs.
Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
Operate a motor vehicle.
Use a variety of hand tools and fiber related tools

The fiber technician must be able to work a variety of schedules in order to provide needed coverage, for both normal duty and on-call duty. Must have sufficient visual and aural acuity to operate a variety of standard test and measurement equipment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1.Install, repair, maintain, test proof or adjust, as needed, all fiber optic cables and related equipment.
2.Coordinate fiber activities with other departments and the Manager of Outside Plant.
3.Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services.
4.Perform fiber tests with OTDRs, light source and meters.
5.Terminates, splices, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards.
6.Provides accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database.
7.Assists the Construction and Engineering departments in accepting and turning up the fiber network.
8.Builds bays, racking, jumper ducts and other network elements needed for the installing of fiber optic equipment and patch and panels.
9.Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment.
10.Install demarcation enclosures, switches and other telcom equipment.
11.Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned or as become evident.
