Description:

Establishes communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.

Duties:

1. Plans network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site; preparing an installation diagram.
2. Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; activating remote access tools; coordinating with contractors.
3. Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
4. Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
5. Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
6. Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
7. Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
8. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
9. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
10. Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Skills/Qualifications:

1. Professional Truck, Van, or SUV with the ability to carry a ladder.
2. Ability to work in an outdoor environment, variable, adverse, and/or inclement weather.
3. Physical agility to climb overhead structures and willingness to work at heights up to 15 feet as well as the ability to use ladders and climbing equipment.
4. Ability to work in tight spaces such as crawl spaces and attics.
5. Ability to lift 70 lbs.
6. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate electrical tools and splice cables.
7. Color acuity sufficient to read color coding of cables.
8. Valid state motor vehicle driver's license, good driving record, vehicle registration and insurance coverage sufficient to meet Mill-Tel, Inc.'s MVR policy.
9. High school graduate or GED (or above).
