Job Description

NX Utilities is seeking Structured Cable Techs for the Austin, TX market!

As a structured cable technician you are responsible for working with all types of cable in the framework of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Pulling, routing, installing, and terminating structured cabling in an enterprise office, manufacturing and new construction environments.
• Planning and acquiring supply needs
• Read, understand, and updated building drawings
• Manage and meet project deadlines
• Running of phone and data cables, including fiber optic, audio, video, and security camera cabling
• Accurately test copper and fiber (multimode and single mode) cables to required certification
• Physically install Cat3, Cat 5, Cat Se and Cat 6 Structured Cable Distribution Systems
• Installation of outlets, pulling cable, fire stopping and pre-terminate ion including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards
• Terminate, assemble and install 8-pin modular connectors and coaxial connectors
• Test, diagnose and correct copper and optical fiber problems
• Maintain and reference industry standards including ANSI,EIAITIA and local and Low Voltage Code
• Determine closet and equipment layouts and install closet hardware including backboards , connecting blocks, racks, patch panels and fiber enclosures
• Perform and supervise work in retrofit and new construction environments
• Work safely at all times utilizing the necessary Personal Protection Equipment
• Perform administrative tasks including, but not limited to, documenting test results and as-built, maintaining log books, providing labor summary reports, etc.
• Order and inventory materials
• Develop project plan including required materials, deliver schedules, completion schedules, manpower requirements and tool/equipment lists
• Ability to properly instruct other technicians on techniques, works, etc. ., as needed to keep project work flowing
• Possess a high level of independent judgment within established procedures

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 4 years of directly related experience
• Certified as a BICSI Technician or similar certification preferred
• Certified Fiber Optic Technician certification preferred
• Have strong knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, cabling standards and components
• Ability to work extended hours (overtime) as needed
• Ability to pass drug testing and back ground check

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma; 4 years’ experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
