Your mechanic is correct. I am a Ford man but those nasty boggers are POS and the only thing u can do is rebuild or new motor. No bullet proofing like the 6.0 I have a buddy that has one and its had 3 motors in it already. He is like u he loves his boom and bed. Told him he just needed to chassis swap it. Good luck!!
