Re: Degree For Mapping Or Drafter

My advice to you would be to enroll in a CAD class and while you are taking that class hire on as a grunt on a line crew so you can begin to learn proper construction practices as well as the nomenclature used on the prints you will be working from.  Ask a lot of questions and pay attention to the old timers.  Then once you have a fair handle on that information you could then find a field engineer to work for while you are honing your skills.  Be ready to work very hard, sweat a lot and never do motel mapping.  You must always do your clean-up, and everyone has clean-up.  Experience counts more than a piece of paper with fancy writing on it.
