I hate to sound this way but if you are a contractor or are working for a retailer hold onto equipment (dvrs and hmc servers) that you were given to install.  It is not theft if it was given to you.  The police will consider it a civil matter.  Don't let anyone tell you different.  Get a money order or cash.  You should get paid.  If you are just being hosed by getting lousy routes and stuff like that you don't have any recourse but to quit.  It never gets any better.  It does burn a bridge but these are all factors you have to take into consideration.
