That's how we do it. If you have a nice splicer don't use it, buy one of the small cladding alignment ones. You will end up all kinds of crappy places and won't like carrying everything with you. Get a small folding stepstool to put your splicer on at the side of the house, otherwise you have to hold it somehow. A light meter to verify your splice is good. If you have a specific question ask.
