It's terrible! Cable pays pennies and telco industry isn't a whole lot better. You'd be lucky to find any work in the $20 an hour range for W-2 and the 1099 contract pay scale is seriously a JOKE! I'm actually leaving Florida after being here since 1999 to seek work elsewhere.
