My suggestion would be to use a spectrum analyzer and observe the bandwidth in the frequencies of concern to see if there are any beat products or other type of interference on a peak hold. Do this at: 1.) the inputs to the forward laser(s) to see if anything is being introduced in the headend combined signals. If all is acceptable then 2.) look in the field at the area of concern to see if any CTB or CSO interference has been introduced into the outside plant from the active devices. There is also a good possibility that there may be off-air ingress that is causing interference similar to the old "direct pick-up" in the old days. Check to see if any local FM radio stations are on the same frequencies.
