Mer related problems

We are running an 870 plant, ive noticed that our MER levels have been an issue during our digital upgrade, causing tileing and slow speeds for internet. I was wondering, as im sure other techs have too, if the low band levels are running hot towards the EOL, why does this affect the MER levels neat the 860mhz level... sure i know cutting in an leq can help solve this issue for long spans that terminate with a 2port 4 or even a 10, just wondering if there is a cause for this or is it just the nature of the beast...
