The future isn't looking to good for those still out there..in the trenches!! The big bucks in Communications was back in 2008-09. Now most of the 3G/4G stuff is built. There are no new bells/whistles on the raise that would demand new construction. Verizon is done, ATT will be done next year, Sprint this year, Tmobile wrapping up. Cable industry is still holding off with full blown FTTH. Most large system usually has maybe 25-50 mile of new build and on going maintenance but the big rebuild jobs are not in sight. Long haul fiber is down with most of the obama rural broadband being completed. Wireless is killing the lashing machine
You need to look at where you want to be in the next 5 years as Communication Construction will be slow. If your young enough, try to hire on with electrical companies, we will always need electricity.
Best bet...look for another trade or get some new training.
Cable will come back when they start to rebuild with the use of fiber...but for now...just smaller node size. TWC up for sale-Comcast/Charter/Liberty all want a piece of it..we're getting back to the ma bell days--then the government steps in!!!
