Re: 2 cents

Being a 1099 subcontractor basically means that you are going into business for yourself. Many techs today have that W2 mentality. Meaning they feel as though they are entitled to lodging, gas, tool assistance. That's a ridiculous notion. When I first started out I had my mom and dad help me but I would NEVER approach my boss and ask for gas money, etc. We had a couple of ITG join our crew after they got the shaft. They lasted a couple of days before they started with the demands. A two man truck left because we said we do not pay after one week. This of course was addressed during the initial on boarding process. We always tell potential crew members that their is a 2 week hold. It's never a surprise, contrary to what some disgruntled "diva" techs may have you believe. This can definitely be a financially draining line of work at times but that is no secret to ANYONE reading this.
