Re: Need advice

Just wanted to add a few things.
1. Don't expect the tech to have the Sonora Design amp I mentioned. You will want to purchase this yourself. Solid Signal has them for about $35.

2. Don't expect the tech to terminate or to even have RG11. You may need to buy this yourself. If you do, make sure it is solid copper center conductor. I don't work with RG11 a whole lot and don't even know if it is made in copper-coated steel, etc., because it seems to defeat the purpose but just be sure when you buy. Get flooded cable (direct-burial) if you can find it, it will last longer buried.

3. Have the shed ready and power to it before the tech comes out. Any trenches you make for the RG11 should be left open until the tech is done. He will likely want to visually inspect the whole thing to make sure he isn't having to warranty an install that has a bunch of buried splices, etc.

4. Some installers won't want to mess with a long distance install such as this because they will be concerned that they just spent the last four hours on a job that wouldn't ultimately go in and now they aren't making any piecework for it. If this is an issue, you might get a reluctant tech to at least try if you offer in advance to compensate him if the install is unsuccessful. He might quote you an hourly rate but you can also just try offering $100 if he spend 3 hours on it and it doesn't work and if it does work, he just gets what DirecTV pays him + any quoted custom labor you guys agree on beforehand such as a new pole mount, wallfishes, additional trenching, etc.
