 There have been no cases of any long term damage or medical probs. from heat shrink. It has been around since the 50s. It has been tested and deemed as environmentally safe. If you are seeing or breathing fumes then you are over heating it. If over heated it may cause a slight irritation or even dizziness in some people, but nothing long term.  
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.
