Re: Guns....20 Dead Children

Why we didn't abolish slavery:  Simply, the founders didn't want to give the government any excessive power of regulation. They simply wanted the government to have barely enough control to keep the country running. All rights belong to the individual, except those reserved to the federal government by the Constitution and to the states, those rights specifically given to them by the Constitution. Read the Tenth Amendment. I'm sure many of our founders abhorred slavery, but giving the government too much power means that eventually we all would be slaves. Realistically, we are slaves. If you work 40 hours a week and pay 25% of that in taxes, that means that 10 hours of the work you do each week is for someone else's benefit, the slavemaster, a.k.a., the government. If you think you are a free man, try to keep 100% of your paycheck...see how fast they lock you up in prison for tax evasion.

As far as understanding what our founders were thinking, go to a library and look for a book called The Law Of Nations. It is the only text mentioned in the Constitution, written by Emmerich de Vattel in 1758.
