If memory serves me correctly, the old NESC code was a maximum of two 90' slackspans in a row.  That was for the Cleveland and Northern states areas with fairly severe icing and windloading provisions.

I used the old Telephone Blue Book back when I was a pup, but am unable to find a reference for it on teh Google.
