''Cable guy'' scamming Akron residents
By Beacon Journal staff

POSTED: 03:06 p.m. EDT, Mar 30, 2011

Akron police are warning residents about a thief who pretends to be a cable repairman.

Police say the man has recently been successful in stealing purses, checkbooks, credit cards and cash from three residents on Sherman Street, Twin Oaks and Northampton Road.

Police say the man, dressed in a Time Warner Cable uniform, disconnects the cable from outside the residence and then knocks on the door and offers to make a repair. He steals the items while inside the residence.

The suspect is a light-complexioned white man with missing or poorly maintained teeth. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin build, brown hair and light blue eyes. He wears a blue or black hooded sweatshirt with a Time Warner Cable logo and navy blue baseball hat. He also wears a cable company ID card around his neck.

Anyone with information is asked to call Akron police detectives at 330-375-2490. Anonymous tips can be made at http://ci.akron.oh.us/ASP/tip.html.
