Coming Soon: CABL Bar Articles
Starting in APRIL 2008 the Bar will begin publishing articles written by its members.
Each month, one Feature article will be chosen
to be placed in a new Articles section on the Bar. The author will be paid $300.00
for each Feature article published. Members are encouraged
to submit articles based on any topic related to the Broadband industry.
Article Ideas:
The Bar community is diverse and there is great interest in learning about the regular
jobs and specialized skills of other members. Detailed descriptions of ordinary, everyday tasks of your job
may be old hat to you, but could be an educational opportunity for another. Is there
something unique about your job that others might find interesting? Have an original
story to tell? Do you have a unique method of handling a common responsibility?
Created a custom tool? Have a great way of preparing for work, like stocking a truck
or organizing work orders? A special way of dealing with customers? These are all good ideas but feel free to come up with
your
own.
Writing:
A conversational style for your article is best. Write as you would speak. Remember
the audience is your peer group. Limit the use of fancy words and try to get your
idea across in as few words as possible. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words, so always include
them when applicable. Don't over-worry about
grammar, spelling, or punctuation
as those issues will be cleaned up by the editors
prior to publication. There is no specific length or number of words to target,
just complete your idea in the length necessary. Articles of all length, including
those that are very short, will be considered but only the most developed have the
best chance to be accepted as a Feature article.
Acknowledgements: It is often
necessary to cite other references, such as a user's manual or technical text, as
sources for information provided in your article. Be sure to properly credit these
sources in an Acknowledgements section at the end of your article, if applicable.
Biography: Articles will include
an author's biography. Your bio can include any information about yourself, such as
your company, what you do, and your industry experience. Try to limit
the overall text to no more than a few hundred words. If you have a link to a home page, please
include it. Expect a significant increase in traffic after publication.
Format: Articles may be submitted in any standard electronic format
such as Microsoft Word (.doc), Wordpad (.rtf), HTML, etc. Graphics,
either photographs or user-created drawings or diagrams, are suggested
to use the JPEG (.jpg) format. Submissions should be sent as a single file attached to an e-mail.
Submissions
including multiple source documents should be ZIP compressed (Windows
compressed folder, or .zip file) prior to sending.
Payment: Payment is either $300.00 for a Feature article, or $150.00
for a standard article. The amount will be specified in the formal
offer of publication should your article be selected. You may choose payment either
by bank check or electronically via PayPal online transaction.
Terms: Submissions will be accepted from the author(s) or his authorized
publicist only. Submissions must be an original work of the author(s) and must not
have been published previously in any form. By submitting material for publication, you acknowledge
that you are legally entitled to distribute the work and to allow it to be distributed.
All paid articles become the property of CABL.com. Articles are chosen by the editors
for technical quality and prospective appeal to member interests, and not all articles
will be chosen
for publication.
Submission: Submissions are accepted by e-mail only. Submit articles
to: articles@cabl.com
All questions should be sent via private
message here on the Bar to
CABL Admin (must be logged in to send.)
